Finish a new Norwegian sweater in colors of your choosing just in time for Winter!
Denise Bell of Lost City Knits will walk students through the project from cast on to blocking, taking you beyond the basic plain beginner sweaters to an elegant finished garment. If you have knit a stranded colorwork hat before, you have the necessary skills to enroll in this class.
We will use the Snow Sky pattern by outstanding knitter, prolific designer, and respected teacher Ann Swanson, created for the book Sweaters from Camp (Schoolhouse Press, 2002). Originally offered in just one size, the pattern has been graded, with permission from Schoolhouse Press, to fit thirteen sizes ranging from 35″-71″ bust for this class.
Over six sessions (plus a bonus seventh for show and tell), students will start from the cast on edge knitting up to the shoulder, and down the sleeves creating a beautiful all-over Norwegian sweater customized to fit their body, learning many concepts during the process, including —
Knitting a rolled hem.
Determining the length of a sweater.
Calculating armhole depth based on your measurements.
Creating a sturdy shoulder seam.
Adding steek bridges and cutting steeks.
Adding short rows for a pleasing fit.
Picking up and knitting sleeves.
Planning sleeve decreases based on your desired sleeve length.
The series will be held over eleven weeks in late 2022 via Zoom.
Class will be held from 6:00 to 8:00pm Central Standard Time. Class recordings will be available for one week after the session for those who cannot attend.
Class dates are the following Tuesdays:
September 27
October 4
October 25
November 8
November 15
November 29
There will be a bonus Show and Tell on either December 6 or 13, depending on progress.
This pattern is available from Schoolhouse Press for $7.99 and requires 2 shades of jumper/fingering weight Shetland wool yarn. Enrolled students will be entitled to a 10% coupon for Jamieson & Smith yarns from Lost City Knits for this project. Yarn estimates will be included with your Welcome Letter after enrollment.
Class cost is $250 for the six sessions. There will be a limit of ten students. Office Hours will be available to students on non-class Tuesdays by appointment.
Cancellation Policy – Half the cost of the class can be refunded until two weeks before the first class. After that, half the cost can be refunded only if we are able to fill the vacated space.
