Description

Not all Shetland shawls are knit from skinny yarn and can pass through a wedding ring. While we love those that do, the traditional Shetland Hap was historically knit with jumper (fingering) weight yarn in the natural colors of true Shetland bred sheep. In this 3 session online class we’re going to add a little twist to the traditional everyday Shetland shawl. Among the topics we’ll discuss are construction, color, and blocking.

We’ll discuss traditional techniques and color placement in class and Denise will lead students in knitting a small sample hap to learn the basics of modern hap construction. A kit using Jamieson & Smith yarn is available for $40. Students should purchase the kit upon enrollment to receive them with adequate time to finish class homework.

Finished Sample Size 25″x25″.

All three sessions will be held using the Zoom online platform. Please make sure you are comfortable navigating in this platform before signing up for the class. Class will be recorded and available within 24 hours (usually sooner) and will remain available for one week.

Students will receive a Welcome email within 24 hours of enrollment. A class handout pdf (which includes homework directions) and Zoom links will be emailed one week prior to class. Yarn supplies are limited and should be purchased upon enrollment to assure availability and that they arrive in advance of the class.
