The 2020 Shetland Wool Week patron is Wilma Malcolmson, and her hat pattern, Katie’s Kep, is available for free on the Shetland Wool Week website.
Shetland Wool Week is a world renowned celebration of Britain’s most northerly native sheep, the Shetland textile industry and the rural farming community on these islands. Shetland wool is a world class natural fiber, with a long standing reputation for quality, strength and excellence from the fleece to the textile products. Shetland knitwear has a deserved respect gained from many generations of hard working knitters and crofters producing some of the finest lace and Fair Isle knitwear.
Each March Shetland Wool Week announces the new patron for the series of events hosted in the autumn. This year is no different. The commemorative hat designed by the patron has become wildly popular. This year there are four color options.
An important message from the Shetland Wool Week team
As always, there is no charge for our annual hat pattern, which is free to download. You will also be able to order a printed copy from our online shop from Friday 27 March.
We are asking this year if you might be willing to make a voluntary donation in support of the event. Shetland Wool Week is run by a small charity, the Shetland Amenity Trust, and like so many others we are facing challenging and uncertain times. We have already invested a huge amount of time and money in preparing for the 2020 event – work which began in August of last year. Any support – large or small – is gratefully received and will help us to secure the future of an event which is so important to Shetland and its visitors.

Lost City Knits has put together yarn packs of Jamieson & Smith jumper weight to enable our customers to participate in the celebration. Each yarn pack contains five shades, two balls each of the MC. The free pattern for the hat will be available on the Shetland Wool Week website.
If you want to wing it, keep in mind that you’ll need two balls of the MC.
