“Isn’t she a bit late?” you may be asking yourself but today is the day celebrated as Druid New Year.
The Druids were the priests and educators of Gaul – ancient Ireland. The ancient Celts had a fascinating culture that celebrated both the male and female in spiritual terms. While highly educated for their times the Druids did not have a written language so most of what is now known is derived from excavations and remains of their lifestyle and a whole lot of speculation. The Druids were extinguished by the rise of Christianity and a desire to clear away all indigenous religions.
Honestly I need a new start to the year. So being a wee bit Irish I’m claiming the day. var gaJsHost = ((“https:” == document.location.protocol) ? “https://ssl.” : “http://www.”);document.write(unescape(“%3Cscript src='” + gaJsHost + “google-analytics.com/ga.js’ type=’text/javascript’%3E%3C/script%3E”));

Last Sunday my daughter, Hillarey, had an accident on her way home from work. She was a very lucky lady and walked away from a totaled car with only a few bangs and bruises. We’re all still a bit jumpy around here. Last night I realized I must be feeling a bit better because I made a small funny about the accident to a friend. We’d just traded vehicles the day before with Hillarey so she could drive my Jetta wagon as a commuter car for college. When we handed over the car, nicknamed Sophie for Sophia the Goddess of Wisdom, there were six devils food chocolate cupcakes in the back seat for Hillarey and Lance to share. I told my friend Lisa that is a good thing Hillarey had taken the cup cakes into the house before the accident or that would have a real tragedy!
My first joke. I think some of the tension also was relieved by purchase of another VW yesterday to replace Sophie. Monday Chris and Hillarey will pick up the 2002 VW Golf, which has enough room for hula hoops in the back hatch, and which I hope will take care and protect my family as well as Sophie.
And back to the ancient Celts here is a book recommendation for the New Year –
