I’ve spent the past little while on Ravelry going back over the patterns submitted by qualified entries (those that shared a link about the contest elsewhere) in the 10shawls2010 contest. It was tough. There are some stunning designs out there. If you’re wondering what lace to knit next, any of the projects suggested would make for countless hours of entertaining lace knitting. There were triangle scarves and shawls, rectangles, unusual cast on’s, Estonian designs, designs derived from fabulous architecture, heirloom designs, and the list goes on and on. Good times. Good times.
Since I was having a hard time deciding, I thought it would be best to narrow the possibilities down to three, then go from there. Suddenly it was down to two. Shell’s suggestion of The Cameron Shawl by Sharon Miller, and CMelvin’s suggestion of MMario’s New Years Mystery Shawl.
I hemmed. I hawed. var gaJsHost = ((“https:” == document.location.protocol) ? “https://ssl.” : “http://www.”);document.write(unescape(“%3Cscript src='” + gaJsHost + “google-analytics.com/ga.js’ type=’text/javascript’%3E%3C/script%3E”));

The Cameron is a huge heirloom shawl and knit in cobweb weight with borders. Less than a dozen knitters in Ravelry have tackled it. It is gorgeous!
MMario’s New Years Mystery shawl – well – you can’t see a completed one in Ravelry but by joining MMario’s yahoo group you can get a copy of the pattern as each clue is made available. Have you seen MMario’s patterns?
Go look. I’ll wait.
Uh huh. Everything that MMario designs is staggering. I joined the yahoo group some time ago, but just haven’t taken the plunge and cast on any of the shawls – yet.
So – I said the pattern had to be intriguing didn’t I?
CMelvin you got my attention with MMario’s New Years Mystery Shawl.
You’ve also got a skein of Lost City Silk in colorway Silver Bells coming your way!
Congratulations!
Thanks to everyone for their suggestions. I have the feeling my queue will be growing, as will yours.
